Palestinians must return home: Abbas

INTERIM Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas told thousands of supporters at a campaign rally yesterday that refugees displaced after Israel’s establishment must be allowed to return to their homes.

Mr Abbas, a refugee himself from what is now the northern Israeli town of Safed, has repeatedly demanded Palestinian refugees be allowed to return to their towns of origin inside Israel.

The Israeli government has repeatedly rejected that demand, a key sticking point in past peace efforts.
