Fears for patient safety over drug errors

A TOTAL of 1,400 prescribing drug errors were recorded on 1,000 inpatients’ charts over three months in an acute hospital.

This revelation is contained in one of a number of small, unpublished medication error studies.

The level of error is all the more alarming when set against the backdrop of a "typical" hospital that administers 7,000 drug doses to patients every day.
