US kidnap victim turns up in Moscow

A US citizen has turned up at a police station in a town outside Moscow, saying he escaped from captors who abducted him in the capital last month, police said.

The American, who identified himself as a company director, walked into a police station in Pokrov and said he had been kidnapped by unknown abductors who beat him and demanded £550,000.

The American said he was abducted on June 18 in Moscow and taken to the Vladimir region, where he escaped. The US Embassy said no American had contacted them about an abduction.
