Tourists lured by falling costs

RESORTS around the Indian Ocean have benefited from the increase in long-distance travel by tourists in search of a holiday in paradise.

As traditional destinations in the Mediterranean become overdeveloped, travellers are heading further afield and long-distance tourism has become increasingly affordable.

The Maldives, Sri Lanka and Thailand have all become popular destinations for package tours.
