THE Paris fire that killed 17 African immigrants - 14 of them children - on Friday has prompted outrage over sub-standard housing and calls for low-cost schemes to help the city’s poor.

For the second time in four months, Africans who had crowded into sub-standard housing paid with their lives for their decision to emigrate to France.

Fourteen children and three adults died in the fire which began early on Friday morning local time.
