Rescuers search ruin with special equipment

RESCUERS yesterday afternoon halted their search for people feared trapped for more than a day under the roof of a skating rink in south-eastern Germany, concerned that the ruins could collapse again.

They resumed their search late last night, with the help of specialised heavy equipment to lift the debris of the building structure.

The huge wooden crossbeams that had held up the ceiling had to be lifted out, they said.
