A PLOT to launch a chemical attack which would choke passengers to death on the London Underground and at Gatwick Airport has been foiled by police.

Suspects, believed to be sympathetic to the al-Qaida terror network, planned to attack civilian targets in London with a bomb containing the chemical osmium tetroxide.

The chemical, which can be bought on the internet for €150-€300 a gramme in its pure state, causes victims to choke to death in agony. It is commonly used in research laboratories.
