INFLATION looks set to hit 6% in the months ahead, ensuring Ireland’s reputation for the worst inflation record stays intact.

The warning follows the worst annual inflation in 18 months at 5%. That compares with 4.8% in November.

During the month the consumer price index rose 0.7% against 0.5% in December 2001, pushing the annual rate at the end of 2002 to 5%.
