Keane's controversial biography is nominated at British Book Awards
The midfielder's controversial autobiography has been nominated at this year's British Book Awards.
It will compete with Booker winner Yann Martel for his novel Life of Pi and Atonement by Ian McEwan.
The Keane book, which was co-written with Eamon Dunphy, caused a storm in Ireland when it was published last year.
In it, the former Republic of Ireland captain who was sent home from the World Cup in a blaze of publicity after a verbal outburst against then Irish manager Mick McCarthy admitted deliberately trying to injure Manchester City's Alf Inge Haaland during a game.
Keane subsequently earned a five-match ban and £150,000 fine from the English Football Association for his comments.
The British Book Awards are traditionally decided by members of the publishing world but this year the voting is also open to the public.
Keane is nominated in the biography category too alongside Ulrika Jonsson, John McEnroe and the late Roy Jenkins' profile of Winston Churchill.
