Navel-gazing survey shows surprising results on EU constitution

TWICE a year Europe does a spot of navel gazing when it asks its citizens a series of strategically-worded questions.

The latest results of this exercise show that support for the EU fell slightly over the last six months. The benefits, the image and the support for membership itself all fell by about three points.

Even in Ireland, where the EU normally has its biggest fan club, those believing membership was a good thing fell two points to 73%.
