Coe affair disclosure

The head of Britain’s Olympic bid, Lord Sebastian Coe, failed in a last-minute attempt to stop newspapers yesterday publishing claims he had a secret 10-year-affair.

In the High Court yesterday, Mr Justice Fulford ruled against an application made on behalf of the former Tory MP to injunct the Mail on Sunday and the Sunday Mirror. The newspapers reported the claims of Vanessa Lander that she had an abortion after becoming pregnant by the Olympic gold medallist in May, 1996. At the time, the papers say, Lord Coe’s then wife Nicola was expecting their third child.
