Blair attacked by opposition

Conservatives said it sent the wrong message to have a minister arguing for equality when she was being paid less than her male counterparts.

Meg Munn has been appointed women’s minister in Mr Blair’s reshuffle. However, unlike her predecessor she will not be paid for doing the job. She will just get her backbencher’s salary of £59,000 (€86,000) - almost half the sum paid to Jacqui Smith who did the job before the reshuffle.
