Motorists shell out €3.2bn in tax

MOTORISTS have paid €3.2 billion in tax over the last 12 months, it was revealed yesterday.

The Government has raised €885m in VAT, €1,560m in excise duty on petrol and diesel and €817m in Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) since October last year.

This is up by around €100m on the previous year, when the State took in €3.1bn from motorists.
