EU to tackle Irish car insurance

THE EU said yesterday that it was planning to take Ireland to the European Court of Justice for not implementing a new motor insurance directive.

Ireland was one of five member states not to implement the directive, which all member states should have done last January.

The EU said until the directive is properly applied throughout the EU, drivers from one member state involved in an accident with a car registered and insured in another state will still face serious difficulties in claiming compensation quickly.
