Dress mess gives way to seamless wedding day

GOWNLESS and gutted, Joanne Corcoran was a bride-to-be staring down the bodice of catastrophe.

As one of 183 young women depending on the Wedding Dress bridal shop to kit her out for her big day, she was facing the prospect of cobbling a whole new look together in just 48 hours.

That was on Thursday when news broke that the bridal shop in Penrose Wharf, Cork city, had ceased trading due to financial difficulties.

Joanne joined the queue of teary brides-to-be desperate to know the fate of her dream gown. As luck would have it, she was one of the approximately 80 budding brides the Wedding Dress has so far come up trumps for, delivering a number of dresses by courier to its customers over the last few days.

Last night her new hubby, Declan O’Sullivan, 29, from Berrings, Co Cork, said Saturday’s wedding had been seamless and his bride well over the hump that had threatened to ruin their day.

“I was blown away, she looked fabulous. Her dress was wine and creamy white and everything went perfectly. It was a close call, but we got there in the end.”

Declan and Joanne, who was also celebrating her 29th birthday, were joined by 125 guests at Dunmore House Hotel in Clonakilty, West Cork.

This week the newlyweds head for Sri Lanka and Dubai where a couple of Mojitos will soon dull the pain of wedding dress disasters.
