IBEC believes the economic achievements of the last 10 years are under threat and wants Ireland to embark on a strategy to make it “one of the most competitive economies in the world by 2012”.

IBEC director general Turlough O’Sullivan said the business and employers organisation believes that unless corrective action is taken, the substantial economic and social progress achieved in Ireland over the past 10 years could be under serious threat.

“A return to a period of high unemployment and emigration could not be ruled out,” he said
