THE soaring cost of living is beginning to come under control, it emerged yesterday.

Winter sales helped pull inflation down from 5% in December to 4.8% in January and analysts predict rates will fall even further by the end of the year.

Clothing and footwear prices dropped by almost 14% as retailers tried to boost turnover after a less-than-spectacular Christmas period.
