WILLIAM TREVOR has been installed as 9-4 favourite for the Booker Prize, one of the world’s most prestigious literary awards.

Trevor favourite to take Booker but faces big Canadian challenge

Cork-born Trevor, 74, was shortlisted for the 79,300 prize for his acclaimed novel, The Story of Lucy Gault. However, he faces a tough challenge from a trio of Canadian-based novelists.

Mr Trevor is considered by literary critics as the world’s greatest living short-story writer and he has won the Whitbread prize for best novel three times.
