Tory report pushes for end of Mugabe rule

THE British Conservative Party yesterday released a confidential Commonwealth report into human rights abuses in Zimbabwe in an effort to put new pressure on President Robert Mugabe and bring an end to his regime.

Party leader Iain Duncan Smith wrote to Prime Minister Tony Blair to ask him to publish the report but Mr Blair said it was up to the Commonwealth secretary-general to do so.

Shadow foreign secretary Michael Ancram, who had obtained a copy of the document from Harare, said releasing it would put pressure on President Mugabe’s “evil regime” to end its abuses.
