Israel condemns court move as Cowen slams ‘Berlin Wall’

FOREIGN Minister Brian Cowen yesterday criticised the separation barrier that Israel is building in the West Bank, weeks before the world court is to look at the legality of the structure.

As the Government begins its rotating presidency of the EU, Cowen said the EU has not taken a position regarding the case before the International Court of Justice in the Hague.

However, he noted that the EU is unhappy with the route of the barrier dubbed the Berlin Wall by Palestinians. Sections of the partially completed 400-mile complex of fences, ditches and razor wire dip deep into the West Bank.
