Spain first to issue fast-track extradition warrant

THE first fast-track extradition warrant has been issued by a Spanish judge less than a week after the EU legislation came into effect.

Ireland is one of only eight member states to have incorporated the measure into its national law.

The Swedes requested the extradition of one of their nationals wanted for drink-driving and drug offences. The man, Michael Kurt, moved to Spain after he allegedly committed the offences in November and was arrested by police in Alicante on Wednesday.
