INCREASING optimism that the US economy has moved into recovery buoyed stock markets yesterday.

As a result, the FTSE had its best intraday trading figure since last August, when it hit a session peak of 4,266.4 before falling back to 4,248.5, to leave it up 10.7 points on the day, following its earlier 2003 high.

Overall the markets are still being pulled in two directions, with the bulls convinced that the markets should continue to climb.
