Spacecraft pilot keeps his cool

A CRAFT which promises to one day take Virgin Galactic tourists beyond the Earth’s atmosphere made a nail-biting ascent into space today.

SpaceShipOne dramatically rolled more than two dozen times as it rocketed towards its target height of nearly 62 miles.

But after reaching sub-orbital space, pilot Mike Melvill regained control and steered the ship safely back to Earth.
