Girl dies in tumble drier

INQUIRIES were continuing yesterday into the death of a three-year-old English girl in a tumble drier.

Girl dies in tumble drier

The girl, named in local newspaper reports as Georgina Bywater, reportedly clambered into the appliance overnight at her family’s home in Brierley Hill, West Midlands, on Friday.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the property shortly before 8am on Friday. She was taken to Russells Hall Hospital in nearby Dudley but was pronounced dead.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman refused to disclose where the girl was found in the house or confirm local media reports that the youngster had suffocated in the drier after the door slammed shut. The death was being treated as “unexplained”, no arrests had been made and a post-mortem examination was to be carried out today, she said.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman also refused to comment on the reports, adding only: “We did take a patient to Russells Hall Hospital and the patient was deceased.”
