POLICE, firefighters and rescue workers conducted a drill in the Paris subway yesterday as part of anti-terror preparations.

More than 200 rescuers took part in the response to a simulated explosion between 2am and 4am at the Place d’Italie metro station in southeastern Paris.

“There is no precise threat, but I think everyone in Europe must be ready,” Interior Minister Dominique de Villepin said at the exercise. “We can’t consider that there are no risks, so we must be prepared to face any situation.”
