Cold Feet star banned for drink-driving

The 33-year-old actor, who plays Pete Gifford in the hit ITV comedy drama, was appearing before magistrates in Trafford, Greater Manchester, who also handed him a 12-month community rehabilitation order for driving at two-and-a-half times the legal drink-drive limit. Thomson, of Burton Road, West Disbury, Greater Manchester, told officers who breathalysed him “it’s a fair cop” when they stopped his Jaguar on Burton Road on August 4 last year, the court had heard. Dressed in a dark grey suit with blue shirt and gold and black striped tie, Thomson, who committed a similar drink-driving offence in 1996 and speeding offences in 2000 and 2001, looked nervous throughout the hearing.

He was given a three-year driving ban, a 12-months community rehabilitation order and ordered to pay £60 costs. Magistrate Cathy Roberts told Thomson that by admitting his offence he had kept his punishment shorter: “Had it not been for your earlier guilty plea, it would have been 18 months.”
