Siemens to boost IT jobs in Cork

SIEMENS Business Services, a leading information technology company, is to boost its workforce in Ireland by 60 jobs, which will bring its total number of employees in this country to 400.

The jobs are to be created at its customer interaction centre in Cork, where 140 people are currently employed.

The jobs the third jobs announcement in as many days result from the latest expansion in Siemens' operations that provide IT service-desk functions to companies in Ireland, Britain and Europe.

A total of 1,150 new jobs have been announced since Monday by Pepsi, Delta Homes and eBay.

Siemens Business Services managing director Derek Wilson said: "These are highly skilled customer-facing jobs. These people will be employed to provide specialised software and infrastructure management and support to the IT professionals and end-users who work in our customers organisations."

"Ireland is now a key location for Siemens for the delivery of out-sourced IT services across Europe. Our facility in Cork has grown consistently since its establishment, primarily because of the calibre of the people we recruit and the quality of managed services we deliver."

Twenty of the positions have recently been filled and recruitment is underway for the remaining 40.

Siemens offers services all along the IT service chain from consulting to systems integration right through to the management of IT infrastructures.
