Plant explosion in China

AN explosion at a chemical plant in central China released hydrogen chloride that left 56 people in hospital and affected 320 others.

The leak occurred at 7.30am on Saturday in Kaifeng when a refrigeration compressor exploded, spreading fumes over a housing complex.

The factory is owned by a subsidiary of state-run China Petroleum Group.
