IRISH filmmaker Jim Sheridan’s film, In America, was yesterday nominated for three Academy Awards.

Sheridan and his daughters, Naomi and Kirsten, were nominated for Best Original Screenplay, Samantha Morton for Best Actress and Djimon Hounsou for Best Supporting Actor.

Sheridan, Oscar-nominated as a director for My Left Foot and In The Name Of The Father, based In America on his own experiences of moving his young family from Ireland to New York in the 1980s.

His daughters Naomi and Kirsten co-wrote the screenplay and Sheridan said: "Being nominated is special because this film is about my life and working on it was a family affair to have my daughters nominated too is wonderful.

"My only sadness is that Paddy Considine wasn't nominated for best actor.
