Schroeder attacker jailed

A GERMAN court sentenced an unemployed teacher to four months’ probation yesterday for slapping German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder at a campaign rally earlier this year.

Jens Ammoser, 52, was convicted of bodily harm and defamation by a court in Mannheim, south of Frankfurt. He testified earlier yesterday that he lunged at Mr Schroeder at a May 18 event in the city out of anger at cuts in social programmes.
