JAMES Dean’s brooding image has helped movie classic Rebel Without A Cause to be named the most stylish movie ever.

Rebel Without a Cause named most stylish film ever

The half-century old film about a disgruntled teenager in the fifties topped a poll organised by UCI Cinemas, capturing a fifth of all votes.

Breakfast At Tiffany's was runner-up in the list in which 1,000 people were asked about the most stylish on-screen outfits.

Rebel Without A Cause helped to make Dean one of the most famous stars of the era.

And it made his white t-shirt and denims combination a uniform for a generation of rebellious youths.

The bowler hat, boiler suit and cod piece look of A Clockwork Orange look helped the film to chart at number seven, while the slim-fitting black suits of Reservoir Dogs came tenth.

Lianne Chenery of UCI Cinemas said: "From the tough, ground-breaking teenage rebellion of Rebel Without a Cause to the incredibly formality of My Fair Lady and the futuristic Star Wars creations, all these films have one thing in common an unmistakable look and style.

"Who can forget Audrey Hepburn's huge hat and cigarette holder in Breakfast at Tiffany's or the terrifyingly stark bowler hats of A Clockwork Orange?

"It's no accident that these films have remained hugely popular and iconic the images and clothes were designed to create an impact and have kept the films fresh to fans and to new audiences alike," he said.

UCI held the poll to mark the forthcoming release of

Matrix Reloaded on May 23.
