Judge bans television coverage in sniper trial

A JUDGE yesterday denied a request from broadcasters to televise the trial of sniper suspect John Allen Muhammad, saying such coverage could compromise Muhammad’s right to a fair trial.

Prince William County Circuit Judge Leroy F. Millette Jr. set an October 14, 2003, trial date and set aside eight weeks for the trial.

Muhammad, 41, is charged with capital murder in the shooting dead of Dean Harold Meyers of Gaithersburg, Maryland, who was shot on October 9 while filling his car at a gas station in Prince William County.
