Refugees running out of food

THE plight of Chechen refugees in and around Chechnya will worsen as UN food supplies run out, the United Nations warned yesterday.

The warning came as Russian officials sought to bolster the impression normality was returning to the war-torn republic.

“The UN World Food Programme will have no food stocks for distribution from January 2003. The situation in the internally-displaced persons camps is deteriorating day by day, Bhim Udas, the UN World Food Programme’s emergencies co-ordinator in Russia said.
