A SIX-YEAR-OLD girl drowned in flood waters that have left some 15,000 people homeless and tens of thousands marooned in Bangladesh.

Rain-swollen rivers inundated about 200 villages, damaging crops and restricting the movement of some half a million people in the country’s northeast, said relief officials.

Authorities said surging flood waters have damaged or swept away some 3,000 flimsy huts, leaving about 15,000 residents homeless in the affected region, 160 kilometres (100 miles) northeast of the capital, Dhaka.
