Ex-Man U boss in Peeping Tom quiz

FORMER Manchester United chairman Martin Edwards has been quizzed by police over an alleged Peeping Tom incident in a ladies’ toilet.

Edwards, 57, may now face a court hearing after police submitted a file to the Crown Prosecution Service following the alleged incident at Mottram Hall hotel, Cheshire, on August 17.

According to reports, Edwards apparently looked under the door of a toilet cubicle at the exclusive hotel.

The newspaper said a woman using the lavatory at the time was left “very distressed” by the alleged incident. Edwards, now a non-executive director at the club, voluntarily attended a police station to be interviewed about the incident.

A spokeswoman for Cheshire Constabulary said a file had been submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service, which will decide whether to take the matter to court.

She said: “We can confirm that we have spoken to a 57-year-old man who attended at Wilmslow police station voluntarily, not under arrest, concerning an allegation of improper behaviour that allegedly took place at Mottram Hall, Macclesfield, on Saturday August 17.

“A file is being submitted in connection with this matter.”

A spokeswoman for Manchester United refused to comment yesterday, adding: “We are not saying anything about it at this time.”

The De Vere Hotel Group, which owns Mottram Hall, said it was treating the incident very seriously.

A spokesman said: “Police are investigating allegations of a Peeping Tom incident at Mottram Hall.”
