Jewish statue damaged in France

A MONUMENT at a French cemetery to Jewish soldiers who died in the Battle of Verdun was damaged overnight by vandals, authorities said.

Swastikas and other neo-Nazi graffiti were painted across the monument, the centrepiece of the site’s Jewish section, where soldiers who died during the World War I battle are buried.

Veterans Affairs Minister Hamlaoui Mekachera condemned the vandalism and said the graffiti would be removed immediately.
