Weighty issue

THE biggest regret of Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti as he bids farewell to his opera career is his weight, the singer said yesterday.

“If I could go backwards I wouldn't weigh this much,” Pavarotti, who performed at New York's Metropolitan Opera on Saturday, said.

“When I celebrated my 30 years at the Met in 1998 I had lost 40 kilos and I can assure you my voice was better. Then I started eating again.
