New current account to 'shake up' banks

BANK OF SCOTLAND (Ireland) plans to introduce next year an interest-bearing current account for business that will cost Irish banks 160 million in lost profits annually.

Bank of Scotland (Ireland) chief executive Mark Duffy said the product cost the British banking industry 637 million when it was introduced there.

Mr Duffy said the account would shake up competition in the Irish market.
