Blitzkrieg on Baghdad

US AND British forces invaded Iraq last night, crossing the desert border from Kuwait as a second air raid pounded targets in Baghdad.

Iraqi radio said cruise missiles had hit President Saddam Hussein's family home in the capital during an initial attack at dawn, which US officials said was intended to kill the Iraqi leader.

The evening attack hit Saddam's main palace in the city.
