McDowell set to call time on late pub hours

PUB closing hours are set to go back to 11.30pm on Thursdays, as late hours are blamed for absenteeism on Friday mornings.

Justice Minister Michael McDowell also warned that drunkenness is no excuse for public disorder and will not be accepted in court as a defence.

"People must take responsibility for their own behaviour," he said.
