AN INVESTIGATION began last night into an aviation “great escape” which saw all 297 passengers and 12 crew survive a plane crash at Toronto airport.

Everyone on board the Air France plane managed to get clear before flames and smoke engulfed the aircraft, which had gone off the end of the runway in bad weather at Pearson International Airport.

Forty-three of the Airbus A340’s passengers suffered minor injuries, and were treated in five Toronto hospitals.
