Cheeky Girls hit bum note with worst song

The naff novelty hit beat Cliff Richard’s Millennium Prayer to top the list unveiled by Channel 4 on Thursday night.

Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum) reached number two in the British charts in December 2002 and has sold 800,000 copies worldwide.

But the British public voted it the worst crime against music in a countdown of 100 contenders.

The Millennium Prayer, Cliff’s cringeworthy Christmas record, was second and Agadoo by Black Lace came third.

Surprise entry at number four was the 1997 version of Candle In The Wind, which Elton John rewrote for the funeral of Princess Diana.

Jenny From The Block, by Jennifer Lopez, in which she claims to have remained an ordinary girl from the Bronx despite her lavish lifestyle, was 10th place.

The rest of the top 10 was made up of Fast Food Song by the Fast Food Rockers, Mr Blobby by Mr Blobby, Because We Want To by Billie, Barbie Girl by Aqua and Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus.

Orville’s Song by Keith Harris and Orville was at number 11, one place ahead of Geri Halliwell’s Look At Me.

Other entries in the top 20 include Bryan Adams’ (Everything I Do) I Do For You, which remained at the top of the charts for 16 weeks, Anita Dobson’s Anyone Can Fall In Love, One True Voice’s Sacred Trust and the Mariah Carey/Westlife duet Against All Odds.
