Graft probe in China

MORE than 42,000 Chinese government employees were investigated for corruption and negligence this year, but fewer than 3,000 were higher ranking officials, a newspaper reported yesterday.

The report by the state-run China Daily reflected the communist government’s eagerness to mollify public anger at rampant corruption by publicising its efforts.
