AN intense battle for the contract to build a new terminal at Dublin Airport is underway.

It began yesterday as the Government started to sift through the 13 applications submitted before the Thursday night deadline.

The new plans will bring an end to Aer Rianta's monopoly of airports, which it has enjoyed since its foundation.
