Revealed: We’re failing to protect our workers

STATE bodies charged with protecting employment rights are so ineffectual the entire system is completely dysfunctional, according to a confidential Government report.

The situation is so serious the report recommends the Government completely revamps all employment legislation and reorganise employment rights bodies such as the Labour Court, the Employment Appeals Tribunal and the Labour Relations Commission.

According to the 90-page document, which has been obtained by the Irish Examiner, “the situation has now become so complex that even seasoned practitioners in the area have difficulty in making sense of it all.”
