Arrest in Whelan murder case

A MAN has been arrested in connection with the murder of Richard Whelan - the 28-year-old of Irish extraction who was stabbed to death on a bus in London last week.

Mr Whelan, whose mother is from Co Donegal, was stabbed several times on the top deck of a bus as he made his way home with his girlfriend following a night out in Islington, north London.

The man was arrested in Surrey this morning and taken to a London police station where he remains in custody.

Richard Whelan is to be brought back to Ireland to be buried.
