Countdown to EU membership for Romania, Bulgaria

THE countdown began yesterday to EU membership for two more central European countries.

If accession negotiations go according to plan, Bulgaria and Romania will join the 25-member EU “family” in less than two years.

But as the accession treaty documents were signed in a ceremony in Luxembourg, both countries were warned they still have much to do to qualify.
