THE proposals to levy benefit in kind tax (BIK) on the use of company vans simply “beggars belief,” the director of the Small Firms Association, Pat Delaney, said yesterday.

The change would mean a van driver will pay up to €500 extra a year in tax.

Mr Delaney said the proposal will cause uproar among companies as most employees bring the van home simply to make an early start the following day. He said it will also be impossible to implement by the January 1 deadline and will result in extra costs for employers.
