The 64-year-old magician complained of feeling unwell on Tuesday as he prepared to take the stage in Shanklin, Isle of Wight.

Daniels was admitted to hospital and is awaiting the results of tests, his spokesman said.

He said the entertainer may be suffering from exhaustion caused by his busy work schedule as he tours with his show, An Audience With Paul Daniels.

He recently returned from Australia and has played a dozen dates around Britain in the past month.

“Paul was due to appear in Shanklin last night but yesterday afternoon he complained that he wasn’t feeling very well and decided to get checked out,” the spokesman said.

“He went to hospital and the doctors kept him in overnight. They did various tests, like an ECG and blood tests, and he is waiting for the results. Hopefully it’s nothing too bad.

“I don’t think he was in any pain, he just said that he felt as if he had no energy at all.

“He has been on tour night after night and it does take its toll.”

Daniels’ wife Debbie McGee travelled to the Isle of Wight to be with her husband when she heard the news.
