HE is the man who has been labelled the India-rubber-ball of British public life because of his unerring ability to bounce back from personal disasters which would have crippled and possibly destroyed most people.

But now Jeffrey Archer has to face the world he used to inhabit and revel in the world of politicians, journalists and celebrities which threatens, in part at least, to shun him and discard him as a pariah.

Lord Archer of Weston-super-Mare may be a convicted perjurer whose personal reputation is in ruins, despite his continued declarations of innocence. But he is certainly not the sort of individual to crack, even under this kind of intolerable strain.
